FDH Lounge Show #60: June 3, 2009

By Rick Morris

The five-dozenth episode of the show where “nothing is off-topic,” THE FDH LOUNGE on SportsTalkNetwork.com (Wednesdays, 7-10 PM EDT), features more of the diverse content that has been our trademark from Day One.

We start on a most interesting note with our first-ever interview with a documentary producer/director. Sacha Gervasi is a longtime writer who recently saw his documentary Anvil! The Story of Anvil hit American theatres. The film chronicles the recent comeback attempts of Anvil (hence the name!), a 1980s metal group that never got past the brink of big success back in the day. Why didn’t the band blow up when they were on the verge? What are the most fascinating parts of their strange internal dynamics? What are their chances for the belated success story coming true? We’ll explore all of this with the man who followed them closer than anyone during the formation of the movie.

Then, after our belated FDH Lounge Dignitaries Opening Statements and our look at This Week in The FDH Lounge, we announce an exciting summer theme for The Lounge. At the end of Hour One and into Hour Two, we bring you an encore presentation of our most famous Lounge guest to date: Bob Barker from two weeks back when he commented on Michael Vick’s release from jail the day that it happened and a host of other topics surrounding his newly chronicled life story. With the archives not available as early as planned for this interview, we wanted to make it available again in the spirit of our promise to do so.

Later in Hour Two, we take a look at the NBA Finals that will be starting the night after the broadcast. Who will win and why? We’ll dissect. Also, we’ll examine why the Cleveland Cavs couldn’t hold up their end of the “dream matchup” so many figured we would see in the game’s biggest showcase this year. After that, we welcome in film critic Stu VanAirsdale. His work appears in many venues, such as Movieline, where he is Senior Editor and The Reeler.

In Hour Three, we move into THE FANTASYDRAFTHELP.COM INSIDER with a look at the Buy Low, Sell High candidates for the beginning of June in fantasy baseball, as well as a detailed look at why some players are the best ones to dump when they begin at a dominant pace. Then, our examination of the Stanley Cup Finals hits fever pitch on THE GOON SQUAD as Lounge Dignitary Rick Morris can almost taste a 12th Cup and second consecutive one for his favorite team. Also, you heard it here first: circumstantial evidence about why the Columbus Blue Jackets, and not the Phoenix Coyotes, might be the next team to move to greener ice … errrrr, pastures.

It’s going to be a great program and we hope you can be a part of our audience. As always, we urge you to watch the show live (or listen if you’re on dial-up), but if you can’t catch this as it’s happening, you can always catch the FDH archives 24-7 right here or catch us now on iTunes!
