O'Reilly at Fault for Tiller's Demise?

By Tony Mazur

On May 31st, 2009, Dr. George Tiller, a physician known for helping women with late-term abortions, was shot and killed at his church in Wichita, Kansas. This wasn't the first time Dr. Tiller has been attacked. His clinic has been bombed, and in 1993, Tiller was shot in both arms by a woman who remains behind bars to this day.

As a devout Catholic, I found Dr. Tiller's practices vile and disgusting, but one does not deserve to be taken from this world in that fashion. My heart goes out to the family and anyone closely associated with Dr. Tiller.

But once again, Christians are being pinned as "wackos" and "terrorists" by pro-choice groups, the media, and other imbeciles in the general public. I've read many threads comparing extremist Christians to extremist Muslims. As I've previously stated, I am against abortion, but I don't plan on rigging bombs to a Planned Parenthood. There are nutjobs who commit those ridiculous acts, and I certainly do not condone their actions.

Nothing can be more revolting than what Dr. Tiller did with to the patients in his clinic, but I wanted to vomit after what I have read all evening.

Fox News host Bill O'Reilly has called out Tiller on numerous occasions, dating back to 2005. O'Reilly has referred to him as "Tiller the Baby Killer", and has even talked to women, some as young as 13, who have had fetuses aborted from him. Because of O'Reilly's disgust for Tiller's practices, many are saying that he should be arrested for conspiracy to commit murder.

WHAT?!

This has gotten out of control. First of all, when Tiller's clinic got bombed in the '80s, and even when he got shot in '93, The O'Reilly Factor had not begun. In fact, the Fox News Channel had not started. These pro-choicers and bloggers want O'Reilly in the clink strictly for partisan reasons. They disagree with him and the network his program is broadcast on, so therefore he should be dealt with accordingly.

The fingers that will be pointed at O'Reilly are eerily similar to those pointed at Marilyn Manson during the Columbine massacre. Manson, who had been topping the rock charts for a few years prior, was being held accountable for the murders, saying his music enticed Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold to shoot up the school. So rather than blaming the parents or the kids themselves, Marilyn Manson was to blame for the Columbine shootings. Funny, I don't believe Harris and Klebold listened to Manson, since they refrained from mainstream music.

If O'Reilly is going to be targeted for this slaying, then how did Ice T get off safely?

Metal group Body Count released a song entitled "Cop Killer", written and performed by Ice T. Immediately, the reaction to just the song title was negative, and even President George H. W. Bush condemned such a song to be written. Offhand, I'm not sure if any police fatalities were related to the song, but if it indeed occurred, should Ice T be held responsible? Ironically, Ice T plays a police officer in Law and Order: SVU.

Beavis and Butt-head was one of the most popular shows on cable TV in the mid-1990s, and just like every show with an enormous cult following, the press was critical. The constant sexual innuendo wasn't the problem. It was Beavis's usage of the word "FIRE!" that caused a ruckus. In 1993, a five year old boy set fire to his mobile home, killing his two year old sister, and the mother claimed that he got the idea after watching an episode of Beavis and Butt-head.

The blame game in our society has gone on way too long. We're all adults. Let's not act like children. Whether Tiller's killer religiously watched The O'Reilly Factor, listened to The Rush Limbaugh Show or not, has nothing to do with the murder. The man is clearly deranged and needs to be put away for a while.

Rather than blaming television shows, music groups, or video games, why don't we blame the individual. Seems logical, right?

Tony, this whole situation is messed up on so many levels.

First of all, I cannot join you in the shout out to Tiller's family, although I respect you in doing so. I guess you're a bigger man than me. Given his vile line of work, anything I might say about his friends and family would feel hypocritical to me. I'll not pile on them, though, as I'm seeking to be honest, not recklessly unkind to them.

And, side note, what kind of a church holds an abortionist up as a pillar of their community? He was an usher there! I guess somebody's Bible don't have the Old Testament in it, huh? Again, though, it's the height of evil to whack somebody in a church, no matter what the person did and no matter how misguided the church is. The shooter forgot that there's only one God ... and he'll learn that lesson the hard way when he dies.

But on the main point, this murder of Tiller (I refuse to call him "Dr. Tiller") was horrible in that it will backfire so greatly on the quest to save innocent life. Already the "abortion is a sacrament" crowd at Kos is drumming up ways to use their complete control over the federal government to crush the already-reeling pro-life movement.

Now, here's where I may be putting on the tinfoil hat. Whenever a big event like this happens, I always look to see who benefits. I will always believe that Tim McVeigh was secretly out to discredit those who asked legit questions of the gubmint back in the '90s through his actions. You'll notice that any serious discussion about the circumstances of Ruby Ridge and Janet Reno at Waco pretty much shriveled up after Oklahoma City. Coincidence? Maybe. If you believe in that kind of thing.

I think it's the same dynamic here. Partial-birth abortion specialist gets knocked off by some wackjob and pro-lifers coast-to-coast are tarred with the brush ... coincidence? I doubt it. The shooter wasn't some dummy who knew he was creating a martyr; I believe he SOUGHT to create a martyr. This is the Krystallnacht of the abortion movement.

Now, that is not to say that the shooter would have had any ties with anyone in the abortion movement. No, I'll leave it to the pro-abortion crowd to play the "guilt by association" card. Clearly, this was a lone lunatic ... but I believe that his motives were the opposite of what has been reported. Nobody with half a brain who believes in the right to life would knowingly damage the movement in such a manner.

Or hey, maybe it's just the conspiracy freak in me.

Rick,

I only gave a shout out because any murder is horrible. I'm all for "eye for an eye", but it's too bad there isn't a way to put him back in a womb and yank him out with a heated coat hanger.

I understand that Lutherans have different viewpoints on certain topics than Catholics, but their beliefs are quite similar. I was puzzled, too, to hear that Tiller was an usher at the church. That's amazing. I thought it was bad enough that the deacon at my church is a lifelong Democrat and big Obama supporter. Screw him and screw Notre Dame.

Surprisingly, the media has been quiet about Tiller's demise. I believe I heard a small mention on the local newscast, but other than that, it's business as usual: More squirrels on water skis!

Kos and the Huff Post ran with the story, but even they have been quiet.

Michelle Malkin has a terrific take on this topic on Townhall.com, posted below.
