FDH Lounge #142: April 5, 2011

By Rick Morris

This week’s program sends out the current format of THE FDH LOUNGE (Tuesdays, 7-10 PM EST on SportsTalkNetwork.com) with a bang.

As the Sports Talk Network is acquiring the new Bret Hart program, with its previously established 9-11 PM EDT timeslot on Tuesdays, The FDH Lounge condenses to two hours starting next week. Simultaneously, however, your exposure to The FDH Lounge over the course of the week expands enormously as this month marks the rollout of the “new, improved and expanded” FDH Lounge Vault – which will be a DAILY TWO-HOUR (!!!) sampling of our greatest roundtables and interviews (and it’s on at least a ten-week loop, so no, you won’t be hearing the same stuff all the time!).

But tonight, after The Opening Statements of The FDH Lounge Dignitaries and This Week in The FDH Lounge, we start with quite a timely conversation: movie director/producer Tommy Reid. He produced the long-awaited and just released KILL THE IRISHMAN, the story of legendary Cleveland crime figure Danny Greene – and right on the heels of that, his documentary DANNY GREENE: THE RISE AND FALL OF THE IRISHMAN is hitting the streets. We’ll talk about how these projects came together and his upward trajectory in Hollywood. From there, FDH Lounge Original Dignitary Nate Noy comes in for a recap of the Final Four in his role as FDH College Hoops Analyst. Then, on a reprise of THE GOON SQUAD, we examine the most attractive first-round Stanley Cup Playoff matchups from a mainstream perspective.

Midway through Hour Two, mascot creator Dave Raymond – the original Phillie Phanatic – comes in to talk about how the process of designing these creatures unfolds. For what it’s worth, this now marks both Phanatics (Dave’s successor Tom Burgoyne appeared on Episode #51) and The San Diego Chicken (Episode #27), meaning that we have had a clean sweep of the world’s consensus most famous mascots in The FDH Lounge. Just sayin’.

It’s a characteristic change of pace at the top of Hour Three with Ratt drummer Bobby Blotzer, in to discuss his sensational new book TALES OF A RATT: THINGS YOU SHOULDN’T KNOW. We’ll talk about all facets of his career and the past, present and future of Ratt. Then, THE FANTASY DRAFTHELP.COM INSIDER takes a look at the state of the PGA in 2011 before breaking out our seventh annual golf mock draft.

As always, we urge you to watch the show live (or listen if you’re on dial-up), but if you can’t catch this as it’s happening, you can always catch the FDH archives 24-7 right here or catch us on iTunes.
