Video Clips: Achmed the Dead Terrorist

By Rick Morris

It's been quite a first year for The FDH Lounge brand as we move towards our 25th broadcast next Sunday night, February 10. We came on the air on SportsTalkNetwork.com on January 14, 2007 and we launched this blog as a companion to it in August. We've been adding to this blog over time, both in terms of contributors with Jason Jones and Tony Mazur making their presence felt (with Burrell Jackson, Paul Teeple, Nate Noy, Paul Belfi and Tim Foust about to start bringing the noise shortly) and the various features we've been able to add. Our news feed and featured videos on the right side of the page are a tremendous touch.

Our intention is to rotate the videos on a regular basis, but at the same time we want to continue to make available the ones we thought enough to recommend in the first place. As such, when we change the featured videos on the right side of the page, we will make them available on that topic as part of our "Video Clips" series. How does this continue to make the videos available on a lasting basis? We're glad you asked. On the home page for The FDH Lounge on our mothership, FantasyDrafthelp.com, we have a box created for each month of the blog's existence. In that box, we list every topic in the order in which is was posted here along with a direct link to that month's archived page on Blogger. We make it unbelievably easy to find anything we have ever posted here on our pride and joy, The FDH Lounge Blog.

So that explanation brings us to our next installment in our "Video Clips" series, with this one being dedicated to Achmed the Dead Terrorist. Achmed is a character created by Jeff Dunham, who is an amazingly talented ventriloquist with a host of wildly politically incorrect "dummies." Now, I understand that ventriloquism is an acquired taste and not a preferred form of standup comedy for many, largely because there are a lot of hacks who have beat the concept squarely into the ground. But Dunham's work is, for lack of a more eloquent way of putting it, just freaking hilarious. My partner Jason Jones said it best when I asked him if he'd ever heard of Dunham, and I'm paraphrasing here, but he basically said, "Yeah! I generally hate ventriloquists, but that guy is original and really funny."

Here's a routine of just over 10 minutes in length which sets up the Achmed character and his great catchphrase (I won't spoil it for you).

"Jingle Bombs" -- enough said
.

As you are checking these out, if you're looking for even more fun, search on "Jeff Dunham" in YouTube and watch him play straight man to his other great characters like Peanut and Walter.
